On January 24, 1848, which is 175 years ago today, James Marshall changed the the course of human events when he found gold at Sutter’s Mill 40 east of present-day Sacramento. This would lead to the California Gold Rush and Sacramento grew as the closest major city to the gold fields and was a transportation hub for steamboats and stage lines transporting gold seekers and supplies.
In honor of today, Jared letterpress printed a modern photo engraving of the State Capitol building with a gold miner.
