As more Africans are now estimated to be dying from cancer than malaria, the dramatic shift from the burden of infectious diseases to non-communicable diseases such as cancer represents an enormous challenge to health systems in Nigeria. But there's also the growing problem of the lack of awareness of the disease among the general population. An NGO is trying to do something about this through the Cormode Cancer Foundation. On World Cancer Day, Sumner Sambo speaks to its founder and CEO, Dr Denise Ejoh, who is hoping to inspire millions of Nigerians through her journey as a cancer survivor and advocate for cancer awareness.
