A father fought off a man who tried to kidnap his 6-year-old son on a Pearl District sidewalk Tuesday afternoon, police say.
The Portland Police Bureau has shared surveillance footage of the attempted abduction as investigators seek help from the community to identify the suspect.
Police responded to the attempted abduction about 3 p.m. near The Fields Park, 1099 N.W. Overton St. Video shows the man picking up the child before the father pushes the man away and frees his son.
The man then ran off. The father and son, who have not been identified by police, were not hurt.
The suspect is described as 20 to 30 years old, about 5-foot-1 to 5-foot-3 and heavyset with dark hair. He was wearing a black hoodie and whitewash jeans, a gray beanie hat with a ball on top, and black and white shoes.
Police said they are unaware of any other attempted kidnappings in the area recently.
Police are looking for any other witnesses or surveillance video and photographs. If anyone has information about this suspect or this case, e-mail crimetips@portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 21-348356.
