Dude Arrested for Calling in a Bomb Threat - Bodycam

Police report: "On Friday, April 30, 2021, at approximately 8:24 pm, while on marked uniformed patrol within the City of Fort Myers, Lee County, Florida, Officers responded to 2200 Edwards Drive in reference to a threat of weapons of mass destruction.

The Lee County Communications Dispatch originally received a 911 call which appeared to be a male's voice that stated, “There is a bomb at the Luminary Hotel,” and hung up. The male was referring to the hotel located at 2200 Edwards Drive in downtown Fort Myers. Lee County
Communications informed the Fort Myers Police Communications of the information they received.

Officers responded to 2200 Edwards Drive, which everything appeared to be in good order. Officers checked with staff to inform them of the situation and see if anything appeared to be out of the ordinary or they had any concerns. Lieutenant Camacho responded to the location. Lee County K-9 bomb dog responded to the location to assist. Sergeant Benitez and Sergeant Gomez spoke with the hotel's General Manager Bob to inform him of the situation. Bob stated the hotel has a high turnover rate of employees; however, nothing concerning came to mind of any disgruntled employee that would make any threats to the hotel. Bob stated he did not want to evacuate the hotel or use the K-9 bomb dogs inside the hotel if there were no immediate concerns.

During this time, the Fort Myers Police Communications requested an emergency ping of the Cell Phone through the carrier, which located the cell phone at 13020 N Cleveland Ave. The Fort Myers Communication and Lee County Communications were patched together to relay information quicker. When the Cell phone was pinged and showing at the N Cleveland Ave, Lee County Deputies responded to the location and began canvassing the area.

Deputy Silcock 20-003 and Deputy Dekyser 16-151 responded to the location and spoke with a male, Peyton Johnson. Peyton told deputies he was staying at the hotel and provided Deputies with his name, date of birth, and telephone. Peyton stated his telephone numberwas xxx-xxx-xxxx.

Deputies confirmed the phone number Peyton provided through the Communication Department as the number the original 911 call was made on with the threat.

Deputies detained Peyton and waited on the Fort Myers Police Department to arrive. Detective Southwick and Officer Henry responded to 13020 N Cleveland Ave. Detective Southwick read Peyton his Miranda Rights from a department issued card, which Peyton stated he understood and did wish to speak with Officers. ln summary, Peyton stated the following:

Peyton recently moved back to the area from Tennessee and has been staying at local hotels. Peyton comes down to southwest Florida to do contract work and drywall. Peyton had previously worked at the Luminary Hotel when the hotel was under construction. Peyton has not been back to the hotel since the hotel has been open to the public. Peyton confirmed his cell phone number as xxx-xxx-xxxx. The phone currently does not receive or make calls due to being out of prepaid minutes; however, the phone will dial out emergency calls to 911. Peyton stated he has been with his cell phone in his position all day. Peyton was currently staying at the hotel in room 108 with two females and was not around any males at this location. Peyton's black Motorola smartphone with a black case was collected and submitted into evidence.

Due to the circumstances of the cell phone ping location, Peyton confirming his cellphone number, and the cellphone being in Peyton's position the entire day, Peyton was charged with FSS. 790.163(1) THREAT TO BOMB - FALSE REPORT BOMB EXPLOSIVE WPN MASS DEST.
Peyton was transported to the Lee County Jail for booking and lodging."
