Three journalists sought the intervention of the Supreme Court in an FIR that was registered against them by the Uttar Pradesh police. The top court heard the plea of 3 journalists and granted them interim protection for a period of 2 months and observed that the apex court does not want press freedom to be muzzled. Further, the Supreme Court also added that the journalists should have first reached out to the High Court for quashing of their FIR. Even though the top court granted protection from arrest to three journalists, the journalists have been directed to reach Allahabad High Court for quashing of the FIR.
