COVID-19 in kids has impacted our local hospitals. There are seventy kids currently hospitalized across the state of Ohio fighting COVID-19. Today, the Presidents and CEOs of the state's six children's hospitals gave a passionate plea to Ohioans to take the virus seriously and protect the children who can't be vaccinated, or vaccinate those who can.
Last week, they all signed an open letter through the Ohio Children's Hospital Association saying that more kids are in the ICU with COVID than ever before and staffing is being stretched thin. They say the Delta variant is impacting kids at a much higher rate than before and they're worried about the upcoming respiratory virus season.
Since the middle of August in Summit county, more nearly 11 hundred school kids and staff have been quarantined for COVID-19 exposure, compared to just 23 for the schools that mandate masks. They stress that masks are safe for kids and should be worn in school, espcially for those too young to be vaccinated.
