New Study Finds That Meat Consumption Increases Heart Disease Risk By 29%

Yep, it’s official:

A new study finds that meat consumption increases heart disease risk by 29%.

The study is called ‘Meat consumption and risk of ischemic heart disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis’.

I repeat, this is is a systematic review and meta analysis.

For the people that are not feeling primal, nerdy excitement when hearing this, let me remind you, that systematic reviews are THE créme de la créme of a study.

This is the most powerful study you can find to prove a point and it was just published a few days ago.

So in this video, let’s take a closer look on the sobering findings.

The study looked at 13 studies with 1,5 million people in total and 33,000 cases of heart disease.

Meat intake strongly varied, with unprocessed red meat intake in the lowest intake from 0g a day to the highest intake of 141 g/day. Processed meat intake ranged from 0g/day to almost 80g/day.

With every 50 grams of daily unprocessed meat intake, heart disease risk raised by 9%.

With every 50 grams of daily processed meat intake, heart disease risk raised by 18%.

With some studies finding up to 70% higher risk with every 50 gram of increased processed meat intake.

This means with every 50 grams, so the people eating 80g of processed meat a day do have up to a 29% higher risk of heart disease.

It’s also very likely that the data on meat consumption has been underreported. I’ve personally have eaten almost 2lbs of meat in the past. And I think you know people as well that were, or still are, super heavy meat eaters.

The specific reasons why meat raises heart disease risk still remains unclear. It could be due to saturated fat or the increased sodium in the meat. But researchers are still, well, not so sure.

These findings of the study are important because our governments, as usual, are super slow at taking action and giving clear recommendations.

The national health service of the UK writes: If you eat more than 90g of processed and unprocessed meat a day, you should better lower it to 70g.

Thanks NHS, because a little bit of heart disease, is better than a lot of heart disease.

The US government, MyPlate, is recommending 6 to 7 ounces of protein foods a day.

Writing that all protein foods are equal.

The 7 ounces of processed meat, which the US government recommends, will give you a 72% higher risk of heart disease. And that is just not cool.
So there’s 2 things that I’d like to get across in this video:

1. The time has come to make a decision with your health.

Look, this is not the first study that shows this link of meat consumption and heart disease. In fact, the studies that this study is analyzing go back to 1992. That is 30 years ago.

So it’s abundantly clear by now that meat raises your risk of heart disease. If you decide to stop eating meat 10, or 20 years from now the damage to your arteries might have already been irreversible.

2. You must do your own analysis.

You can not rely on governments or the media to spoon feed you information. Governments and media companies, are run by people, with faults just like you and me. By people, with egocentric interests, just like you and me.

Relying on governments to 100% guide you to your personal bliss is a dangerous bet, because there’s no person that has as much interest in your well-being, as you. So it’s worth doing your own analysis.
