Narayan Rane faces arrest after Shiv Sena and BJP workers clash after his "slap" comment

Maharashtra BJP leader and former Shiv Sena member Narayan Rane claimed that Uddhav Thackeray forgot the year of Independence during his August 15 address to the people of the state. "Thackeray had to check the year of Independence with his aides midway during the speech that day", Rane reportedly said. He also allegedly said that he would've "slapped" Uddhav Thackeray.

In rebuttal to Rane's claims, Shiv Sena's Sanjay Raut said, "To impress BJP's leadership, Rane has been attacking Shiv Sena and its leaders. He has lost his mental balance after his induction into the Central cabinet. Modi should show him the door".

Shiv Sena and BJP workers clashed outside Rane's residence in Mumbai, leading to sloganeering, stone pelting and eventually police lathi-charging to disperse the crowd. Mumbai police has filed multiple FIRs against Rane.

In 2005, Mr Rane parted ways with the Shiv Sena following irreconcilable differences with the Thackerays.
