Modern Arnis JOT #5: Basic Sparring Drill - Following

It's time for another JOT (Just One Thing) from Modern Arnis. This time PG Tye Botting is sharing a basic sparring drill to train striking during an opponent's windup or followtrhough. During a windup you can imagine a string attached to the tip of both sticks such that when they wind up, it draws you forward to strike them. We call this drill following or attacking the draw. First it is done statically just with the feeder winding up, then after a miss during their followthrough as they set up for their next strike, then anywhere in a continuous flurry of 1s and 2s, slowly at first then faster as you get better. You should also work in free movement, circling, fading, and explore on your own - have fun and of course be safe!

Modern Arnis JOTs are very short videos about a single idea, move, tweak, or principle. Let us know if there is anything you would like to see highlighted in a JOT.
