An interesting new player in the highly contested bakkie market has arrived in the form of the JAC T8. The brand hails from China and is 50% owned by Volkswagen, in fact, JAC makes most of the Volkswagens sold on the Chinese market.
With a 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine sourced from Volkswagen, the JAC double cab is available as a 4x2 or 4x4, however there is no automatic transmission available.
Pricing starts at R392,000 for the 4x2 and goes up to R442,000 for the 4x4. This is very much inline with JAC's major Chinese rival, the GWM P-Series, which is a very difficult product to ignore.
