Teachers reveal secrets behind what makes 'hometown of talents' in east China

Three teachers in Fuzhou City of east China's Jiangxi Province have revealed the teaching philosophies which may hold the secret of how the city has been able to boast so many famous scholars ever since ancient times as well as produce a steady stream of young talent nowadays.
Considered as the "hometown of talents", the city of Fuzhou is a place which has been the historical birthplace of many famous scholars and spawned many classical cultural works.
One of the most vibrant places for this historic cycle lies in the city's Linchuan District. A strong cultural atmosphere still exists here today, with a stream of new talents continuously emerging from this area.
The secret behind this phenomenon may have stemmed from the educational philosophies held by three of the city's present-day teachers.
Mei Guofu, a Chinese teacher at the Linchuan No. 1 Middle School, has been teaching in the school for over a decade and said he will continue to stay committed to improving his teaching expertise.
"I have been in this school for 11 years and standing on the lectern all the time. There are 'three happinesses' written by ancient philosopher Mencius. I have one of them, which is 'getting talents and educating them'," he said.
Mei believes that as times constantly evolve, diligent efforts have to be made as new generations of students come through, and believes that this has always been one of the school's best traditions.
"We exchange views with and learn from each other on new teaching methods and ideas every week to construct new education ideas so as to keep improving ourselves for better guiding the students," he said.
Zhou Qin, has taught at the school since 2003, and takes great pride in teaching practical skills which aid their overall development.
